Google is adding new abilities in Gemini AI and giving it for free makes it appealing to millions of users.

Google has constantly strived hard to roll out new features that enhance the overall user experience. This time, the tech giant is working to enhance the capabilities of its Gemini assistant app and make communication even more convenient on Android phones.
According to a report by 9To5Google, Gemini will get the ability to make calls and send text messages, even when your smartphone screen is locked. With this update, smartphone users can directly call and message from the lock screen, without needing to unlock their phone.
Unlike the previous feature that required unlocking the device for making calls, sending messages, and navigating through apps, this new feature avoids these steps, allowing users to initiate communication instantly with a simple tap.
Google has not confirmed the official rollout of this feature, but it is expected to be more widely available in the coming months.
This update, which is encompassed in the latest beta version of the Google app, is available in the Gemini on Lock Screen settings with the option titled “Make calls and send messages without unlocking.” Once a user activates this option, the feature will let users request the Gemini AI assistant to place a phone call or send a text message without unlocking their phone’s screen.
How Gemini AI Can Make Calls
– Head over to Lock Screen settings in the Gemini app
– Select the ‘Gemini on Lock Screen’ available
– Ensure that the ‘Phone’ and ‘Messages’ Gemini Extensions are also enabled within Gemini app for optimal functionality.
As of now, the tech giant only allows users to interact with the assistant for tasks like responding to queries, adding calendar events, and setting reminders while the device is locked. But with the introduction of this feature, Gemini’s functionality will expand, helping users significantly.
It is worth noting that users will likely need to set up a PIN or other secure screen lock method to access this functionality. While the upcoming feature prioritises convenience, security still remains important. In addition to that, the company may also limit the content of messages that can be sent through the lock screen to prevent unauthorised access or misuse.
