Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell came out to bat at No. 5 for Punjab Kings on Tuesday (March 25) in the IPL 2025 match played against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but he failed to open his account. The right-handed batter was dismissed for a golden duck by R Sai Kishore. Maxwell tried to play a reverse sweep against Sai Kishore but failed to connect with the ball and was found in front of the wickets.
The duck on Tuesday was Maxwell’s 19th zero score in the IPL, and it helped him top the unwanted list of batters with the most zeros in the IPL. Maxwell has 19 ducks to his name in 135 IPL matches.
He is followed by Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik. The two Indian batters have 18 ducks each to their name in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.
Most ducks in IPL
- Glenn Maxwell (DC/MI/PBKS/RCB) – 19
- Rohit Sharma (HDC/MI) – 18
- Dinesh Karthik (DC/GL/KKR/PBKS/MI/RCB)- 18
- Sunil Narine (KKR) – 16
- Piyush Chawla (CSK/KKR/PBKS/MI) – 16
Maxwell was the fourth PBKS batter to get out on Tuesday. He came to bat after the dismissal of Azmatullah Omarzai but was of no use.
After his wicket, Shreyas Iyer joined hands with Marcus Stoinis and added 57 runs for the fifth wicket.
Iyer was the top performer for PBKS on Tuesday. The 30-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai, who was signed for Rs 26.75 crore by PBKS in the IPL 2025 mega auction, faced 42 balls and, with the help of five fours and nine sixes, remained unbeaten on 97 runs.
His career-best show in the IPL helped PBKS post a total of 243/5, which in the end proved to be enough to win the match.
For his superb show with the bat, Iyer won the Player of the Match award. The 2024 IPL winning team captain would like to maintain his form with the bat in the upcoming matches as well and help PBKS qualify for the playoffs of IPL this year at least.
PBKS last played in the IPL playoffs during the 2014 season of the cash-rich league. In that season, former Australian captain and current chief selector George Bailey was the skipper.
