Arvind Kejriwal will vacate his official residence this week. The move came days after he was released from the Tihar Jail on bail in the excise policy scam
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to move out of his Civil Lines residence in the national capital within a week, confirmed AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday.
The development came after Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Tuesday, days after he was released from the Tihar Jail on bail in the excise policy scam.
“I have full faith that the people of Delhi will give Arvind Kejriwal a certificate of honesty with a huge majority. He has served the people of Delhi with complete honesty and sincerity. Yesterday, when he resigned, the first thing he said was he would leave all these facilities,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh said.
Stating that Kejriwal will vacate his official residence in a week, Singh said, “There is also a question about his security. He was attacked not once but many times, we told him and tried to explain that his security is in danger. But he decided that God will protect him.”
Explaining Kejriwal’s decision, Singh said that he said he was in jail for 6 months and lived among dreaded criminals, but despite this, God protected him. “He said only God will protect him, he is not worried about the house, so he decided to leave the house. He will leave the house and live among the common people. It is not yet decided where he will live,” he added.
Kejriwal Picks Atishi As His Successor
Arvind Kejriwal, who walked out of Tihar Jail on Friday, resigned from the post of Delhi’s Chief Minister on Tuesday pulled off a surprise by picking colleague Atishi as his successor. Even though there was widespread anticipation that Kejriwal would nominate his wife Sunita as the chief minister, he defied expectations by choosing Atishi.
Atishi, the Kalkaji lawmaker known to have a clean image, currently holds key portfolios such as finance, education, Public Works Department, power, revenue, law, planning, services, Information and Publicity, and vigilance in Delhi government.
It is being speculated that Atishi’s selection might be a planned move by Kejriwal to appeal to the women voters in the capital ahead of the elections early next year.
