Google is now faced with concerns around Pixel 6a overheating
Google is offering a free battery replacement for Pixel 6a users whose device has been affected by the recent issues. The company is even going to push an important update for the Pixel 6a which will reduce its performance and charging speed to tackle the overheating issues faced by the mid-range phone.
The company is going to roll out an update that will throttle the battery usage on the Pixel 6a model and this will be mandatory for most users.
We first heard about the Pixel 6a battery issue in June but the brand had similar problems with the Pixel 4a model that was also given a free battery replacement offer.
It seems the new Android 16 beta version has forced Google to rethink its OS strategy for the Pixel 6a model, which can face potential battery overheating issues. The new Android version is available for the Pixel 6a device and somehow it feels like the culprit behind these problems.
Google has mentioned that the update will be mandatory for the Pixel 6a users which will reduce the capacity of the battery as well as its charging speed to control the possible heating issues. The company will apply these throttles once the Pixel 6a unit reaches 400 charging cycles.
Pixel 6a Free Battery Or Take The Money: Is Your Phone Eligible?
Google is offering the free battery deal for Pixel 6a users from July 21,2025 onwards in countries like US, Canada, the UK, Singapore and India. The users will be asked to visit the Google service centres in their region and for people in the US and India, Google will have a special mail-in repair service available as well. But how do you check if your Pixel 6a is eligible for the free battery replacement?

- Fill the IMEI number for your number that is given on the box
- Share the email ID linked to the Pixel device
- You will know if the Pixel 6a unit is part of the affected list
Google says you can either take the new battery for free and get Rs 8,500 in cash for the issues. The company is also quick to point out that any liquid damage or major dents to the device will make it ineligible for the free battery change.
And if your Pixel 6a phone is out of warranty then physical damages will be fixed but it will be chargeable. Google will share the estimate for the repairs and give the customer the choice to go ahead with the process or have the unit returned back to them.
Pixel 6a is the latest device to face overheating issues, and this confirmation from Google makes it a worrying situation. Google faced similar issues with the Pixel 4a model earlier, for which the company has offered free battery replacement if the particular model/unit was affected and eligible for the free of cost change.
