The AI label will show up on Google Photos which is part of the company’s AI transparency efforts and help people decipher between the real and the AI-edited. These changes are vital since Google has a slew of its own AI-based editing tools available on Pixel devices and other Android phones.
AI Labels: Need Of The Hour
Google is the latest tech company happy to comply with the AI Principles, which includes transparency and sharing the vital details about any manipulated content. Google Photos is used by billions, even the iPhone users, and AI tools are here to help people, but can be easily misused as well.
The company says the AI-edited details will be clearly visible and all you have to do is swipe up on the screen to get information like the name of the photo, location, camera sensor used and AI details if they have been used.
For instance, if you edited a photo using the Magic Editor feature, Google will mention it in the label, allowing people to know which is an original and which has been edited using the AI tools.
Meta is another company to bring these labels for its platforms like Instagram, and it has started showing it to the users. These details are going to be crucial, not only for these companies adopting new AI features, but also making sure that people don’t fall prey to possible deep fakes and other manipulated content on the internet.
