The controversy erupted after the BJP said that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had links to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday claimed that the alleged connection between Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi and Hungarian-American businessman George Soros involved in “anti-India” activities is a “serious” concern and urged all the parties to stand together for the national interest.
While the BJP upped the ante against Congress leadership for their alleged connection with “anti-India forces,” the grand old party continued its tirade against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government over several issues, halting proceedings of the Parliament.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju claimed that BJP has not made the allegation of a link between Congress leadership and Soros, but it was a report in the public domain, accessible to everyone.
“Rahul Gandhi’s conduct and all his activities are very well known to the people. The matter is serious. It’s not a matter concerning the BJP only. It is a matter concerning the entire nation. When it comes to national interests, we all have to stand together and be united.”
He added that George Soros had on several occasions conducted “anti-India” practices and targeted the Indian government. “It is a matter of grave concern for every citizen of India. George Soros and his links with the Congress leadership are not concerning only for the BJP,” Rijiju said.
The controversy erupted after the BJP on Sunday raised that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had links to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation, which has backed the idea of separating Kashmir from India.
Taking to social media platform X, the party claimed that the association between the two shows the influence of foreign entities in India’s internal affairs, which it said raises severe concerns about national security.

BJP president JP Nadda also trained guns at the Congress, saying that the party must clarify the report linking its senior leadership with “anti-India forces.” “I want to know what is the relation of Congress with George Soros. We must know it from them as the government is answerable to the common man.”
‘Diversionary Ploy’: Congress
The Congress party, which is at the centre of the controversy, dismissed the allegations levelled by the BJP, calling it a ploy to divert focus from other important issues.
“First, BJP quoted a Mediapart report (about Congress links with Soros), but Mediapart later said that these things are baseless and there is no conspiracy. They (government) also made allegations against the US State Department, which also said that this can adversely affect ties,” Congress leader Pawan Khera said.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also maintained a similar stance that “the George Soros issue has been created to divert from other important issues.”
Meanwhile, the Congress-led INDIA bloc has moved a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, accusing him of bias and ‘partisan functioning’ of the House. The Opposition claimed that he favoured the ruling party during House proceedings and stifled their voice.
