MTV UK has quietly been axed for production after three whole decades, as it is the latest casualty of streaming and social media.

The popular channel ‘will still have a presence’ but bosses state that there will be no more original music content, although generic US shows will be aired alongside the usual rolling music videos.

It first launched back in July 1997 and has since become a household name, loved by celebrities and fans alike.

It is responsible for kickstarting the TV careers for many stars, including Love Island’s Maya Jama, Cat Deeley, Kelly Brook and Emma Willis.

Some notable cancellations include original series Gonzo and Fresh Out UK.

A source told The Sun: ‘Everyone at MTV is gutted. To say there has been a bloodbath of cuts would be an understatement.

‘Staff have been left in tears as some have been there for decades.

‘Those that are left fear more doom and gloom could be around the corner.’

Other shows that are likely to be axed include Beavis and Butthead and MTV’s Most Wanted.

Daily Mail has reached out to MTV for comment.

The move comes after the popular European Music Awards was axed last year due to cuts.

It took place in November at Manchester’s Co-Op Live, with Rita Ora hosting the show.

The Best Song award went to Sabrina Carpenter for her smash hit Espresso from her Short n’ Sweet album.

Best UK act was won by Raye and the Best Pop award went to Ariana Grande who wasn’t there at the ceremony.
