Captain Shubman Gill has hailed the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad and backed the franchise to add more trophies to their cabinet in the Indian Premier League.
In a special video posted by the Titans, their skipper said they wouldn’t have done justice to their potential if Gujarat didn’t fulfil his prophecy. The 25-year-old oozed conviction behind his Titans juggernaut, claiming the 2022 champions have it in them to lift ‘three trophies in a row’.
“I genuinely believe we can win three trophies in a row,” Gill said during an interaction ahead of the Titans’ IPL 2025 Eliminator face-off against the Mumbai Indians on Friday, May 30. “If we aren’t able to win two or three trophies, I don’t think we’d have done justice to the kind of squad that we have.”
Titans, who also finished as the runners-up of the 2023 edition, overcame a bitter league-stage exit last season with an inspiring campaign where collective performances propelled Gill’s men to nine victories and a third-place finish ahead of the playoffs.
Gill has led his troops from the front, scoring a bumper 649 runs at a strike rate of 156.38 with six half-centuries. When asked to explain what makes the Titans tick, Gill said it’s the constant pursuit of improvement that has been key to their success.
“I don’t believe that one moment can help you become a fantastic team, or one bad moment can make you a really bad team. It’s every match, every up and every down is very important,” Gill said, taking the example of their ten-wicket win against the Delhi Capitals to press home his point. “In one of the matches where we won by 10 wickets, even in those kinds of matches, we try to look for areas where we could’ve done better. And that for me defines what a good team is.”
Gill underlined the ‘secure’ and ‘relaxed’ environment within the Titans camp as a key to their success and lauded coach Ashish Nehra for playing an influential role with his guidance and ‘clear communication’.
The 25-year-old, who was recently appointed India’s Test captain, has the chance to bag the IPL glory. A victory over MI would help GT progress one step closer to the prized silverware with a place in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings.
