Former England white-ball captain Jos Buttler (54) tried his best to keep the home team in the game by adding 54 runs for the third wicket with West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford (46), but his wicket on the last ball of the 18th over shifted the game in Punjab Kings favour.

B Sai Sudharsan (74) top-scored for Titans and captain Shubman Gill made 33 runs from 14 balls.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first by GT skipper Gill, PBKS rode on captain Shreyas Iyer’s career-best 97-run knock to post a total of 243/5 in 20 overs. Iyer faced 42 balls during his stay at the crease and hammered five fours and nine sixes. He added 51 runs for the second wicket with Priyansh Arya, who, on his IPL debut, scored 47 runs from just 23 balls.

The left-handed batter from Delhi, who secured a deal worth Rs 3.80 crore by PBKS in the IPL 2025 mega auction, was sent back to the pavilion by Rashid Khan on the fourth ball of his first over of the match. The youngster smashed 7 fours and two sixes.

Iyer added 26 runs for the third wicket with Azmatullah Omarzai (16 from 15 balls) before R Sai Kishore dismissed the Afghanistani all-rounder and Glenn Maxwell (0 from 1 ball) on back-to-back balls.

After PBKS suffered a shocking collapse, Iyer joined hands with Marcus Stoinis (20) and added 57 runs for the fifth wicket. Stoinis was also sent back to the pavilion by Sai Kishore when he tried to play a big shot against him.

Iyer, who became only the fifth player to lead three teams in the IPL, on Tuesday hit Prasidh Krishna for 24 runs in the 17th over, and in the next three overs, PBKS batters – Iyer and Shashank Singh – scored 20, 10 and 23 runs, respectively, to take the team’s total to 243.
