Guy Sebastian reveals how major career change was an ‘accident’ and shares ‘challenge’ of going into new industry as a famous singer

Guy Sebastian has opened up about his shock career change to movie acting.

The former Voice judge is set to appear in a major role in the Bollywood movie Hindi Vindi which hits cinemas Down Under this week.

However, the Australian Idol singer now says her never actually set out to be in the film at all.

The 42-year-old made the surprising revelation in this week’s edition of Stellar Magazine. 

‘The acting part was a bit of an accident,’ he admitted.

Originally the producers just wanted him to provide the singing voice for the main character as well as write some tunes for the film, he explained.

He continued: ‘Then I ended up getting asked to consider this part as [the character’s] dad…’

Elsewhere in the chat the hitmaker and TV celebrity revealed his behind-the-scenes struggles. 

‘One of the most challenging things was that when I was on set, I was constantly reminded that I’m Guy Sebastian. 

‘It might even have been one of the [crew members] telling me mid-scene they loved The Memphis Album.

‘I had to sit the directors down at some point and from then on, they started calling me [my character name] “James” on set and everything improved. It got easier for me to remain in character.’   

For his Stellar cover shoot Guy posed in a yellow V-neck sweater he paired with a pair of retro check trousers.

He completed his look with a touch of stubble, a pair of brown leather slip-ons and a new sleek hair style.

Guy also posed in a pin stripe retro suit which he paired with a white T for the cover story.

It comes after Guy revealed to fans that he had joined the cast of Hindi Vindi last August.

In a post to Instagram Guy announced he would be undertaking his first ever acting role in the film which co-stars 26-year-old Indian actor Mihir Ahuja.

Hindi Vindi is slated for release in Australia next week and tells the story of an Aussie-Indian boy who goes on a musical journey.

Guy is taking on the role of James, the boy’s father. The film is directed Ali Sayed and also features Neena Gupta.

Sharing the exciting news with his fans on Instagram, Guy, who created original songs for the soundtrack, told how his Indian mother Nellie is very proud of his new venture.

He penned: ‘Well, this may seem out of the blue … I joined the cast of a Bollywood movie earlier this year!!

‘It was a surreal experience for me, working alongside a really stellar cast with iconic Bollywood actors, in my very first acting role – it was something that I will never forget.

‘Hindi Vindi is emotional and heartfelt, and tells the story of an Aussie-Indian boy and his musical journey. I was also fortunate enough to write and record original songs to support the soundtrack.

‘I am really proud of this project, and if anything at least I know I made my Indian mum proud! It will be released in theatres all over Australia in September!’

Guy rose to fame when he won the first season of Australian Idol in 2003 and he is now arguably best known as a judge on The Voice Australia.

Back in August the film’s writer writer and executive producer Jay Sharma revealed Guy had wowed early audiences.

‘We were a bit nervous obviously, it was his first acting gig. But we just did some screeners of the film and it looks like Guy’s the best actor in the film right now,’ Sharma told Adelaide Now.

‘He’s the comic relief in the film and people love him.’

Guy rose to fame when he won the first season of Australian Idol in 2003 and he is now arguably best known as a judge on The Voice Australia.
