Ace Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen romped to the title in the Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament on Sunday as he breezed past his finals opponent Jia Heng Jason Teh 21-6, 21-7 in straight games to clinch the crown in Lucknow.
The 23-year-old expressed joy with his dominant display against his Singapore counterpart on the day and opined that the time off he has following the conclusion of the tournament would help him focus on the upcoming tournaments.
“I am really happy with the way I had prepared and how I played the match,” Lakshya said.
“I hope to do well in the tournaments next year. I have some time now till the new season, which will allow me to train and focus on the upcoming events,” the boy from Almora added.
The women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand claimed the women’s doubles title earlier in the day as the Indian duo posted a 21-18, 21-11 win over Bao Li Jing and Li Qian in the championship clash.
Gayatri opined that the victory would serve as a shot in the arm for the duo ahead of the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals, following the duo’s maiden Super 300 title triumph.
“We really wanted to win, we were aggressive and kept moving well. There was a strategy, and we implemented it well today. We plan to go with the flow and see what the future holds. We don’t want to make too many plans,” Gayatri said.
“This is our first gold, and it’s a great boost for both of us. It has given us a lot of confidence, and we are looking forward to the World Tour Finals now,” she continued.
Treesa and Gayatri became the first Indian women’s doubles team to win the Syed Modi International title. The duo, runners-up in 2022, went one step further this year with a solid performance.
Treesa and Gayatri finished second at the event in 2022, and bettered their performance with a solid showing against the Chinese pair.
“The first game was close, but we listened to our coaches, corrected ourselves, and executed the plans,” Treesa said.
“At this level, there is always pressure, and we managed it well,” she added.
