Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has admitted that his act of slapping S Sreesanth during an Indian Premier League was not right, adding that he is a human being and it was an honest mistake.

Posting on his X account in response to a video shared of the incident, Harbhajan held his hands up and acknowledged that it was a mistaken behaviour on his part on the day.

In that infamous game, Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth suddenly, and the latter was seen in tears after a while.

“This wasn’t right, bhai. It was my mistake. Shouldn’t have done this. But Galti hui Insaan hu 🙏 🙏Bhagwaan nahi,” Harbhajan tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

The slapgate incident was one of the biggest talking points of IPL 2008, as Harbhajan had a clash with Sreesanth.

“What happened was wrong. I made a mistake. Because of me, my teammate had to face embarrassment. I was embarrassed. If I had to correct one mistake, it was how I treated Sreesanth on the field,” Harbhajan had said three years back as well.

Harbhajan, then the skipper of the Mumbai Indians, was barred from taking part in the rest of that year’s tournament after his actions.

Sreesanth and Harbhajan have seemed to be on positive terms after their confrontation, with the former having said in the past that he has great respect for Harbhajan.

Sreesanth admitted to his role in the confrontation as well, saying that he had been asked by Harbhajan to control his aggression towards the Mumbai side.

Sreesanth also said that he has always been friends with Harbhajan and it was just a misunderstanding, adding that the latter has supported him from the start.

Sreesanth added that he is very thankful to Harbhajan for his constant support, insisting that their friendship is like the song ‘Tere Jaisa Yaar Kaha. ‘

Both Sreesanth and Harbhajan have called time on their careers and now perform commentary duties across broadcasters.
