Thanks to its black-sand beaches, volcanic landscapes and subtropical climate, Madeira is often dubbed the ‘Hawaii of Europe’.
Now it’s going to be even easier for holidaymakers to see the stunning Portugal archipelago for themselves, as more flights from the UK are going to be added for the summer – and it only takes around four hours to get there.
The newly released flight schedule shows that weekly flights for the summer period have had a 12 per cent increase from 349 in 2024 to 390 in 2025.
Starting from May, Jet2 will be flying to Maderia from Bournemouth every Thursday.
Ryanair will also start operating flights from Edinburgh every Wednesday and Sunday.
Londoners can already fly from Luton to Madeira with easyJet and Jet2, but the two airlines are going to increase their services between the two airports.
When Michael Portillo visited Portugal for his Channel 5 series recently, he told MailOnline Travel that tourists will be wowed by Madeira’s natural beauty.
He said: ‘It’s a volcanic island, so although it’s very small, in a few moments, you rise from sea level to land which is higher than anywhere in the United Kingdom, and you’re up there in rainforest, mist and fog, and you’ve got exotic plants and flowers.

‘And, because it’s an island, it’s constantly changing. One moment it’s kissed by sun, the next moment it’s shrouded in mist, the next moment there’s torrential rain.
‘It’s just superb.’
Travel expert, Will Sarson at Riviera Travel, also recently named Madeira as one of the best destinations for female solo travellers.
He explained the island offers a ‘variety of activities’ ranging from ‘hiking’ to unwinding by the ocean, and added: ‘Funchal, the capital city, is a must-visit. Its restaurants offer a huge variety of cuisine.’
