Real Madrid midfield star Luka Modric has backed his club teammate Kylian Mbappe to win multiple Ballon d’Ors in the future. The Frenchman signed for the Los Blancos last summer, arriving in the Spanish capital from Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain.
While Mbappe won the FIFA World Cup at 19, he has yet to get his hands on the Golden Ball. Modric, however, believes that will change soon. “He’s [Kylian Mbappe] one of the best players I’ve ever seen,” he said in a recent interview, as per multiple outlets. “I’m sure he’ll be one of the favourites to win not just one Ballon d’Or, but several,” the Croatian international added.
Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012. In his decades-long career, the Croatian midfielder has shared the club locker room with multiple Ballon d’Or winners such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
The 39-year-old himself won the award in 2018 after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid and reaching the 2018 FIFA World Cup final with Croatia. While Modric has played alongside several big names, he admitted that Mbappe could do other-worldly things in the sport. “He’s one of the best players in the world. He can do things that have never been seen before,” Modric said.
Aside from Kylian Mbappe’s football skills, Modric was also hugely impressed by the Frenchman’s personality. “What has impressed me most about Mbappe is his personality, his way of being. He’s an incredible kid, very humble and always willing to joke around and help his teammates. He’s very calm,” the Croat said. “From the outside, you might say he hasn’t had his best season, but he’s scored over 30 goals. Imagine if it was his best season!” he concluded.
Mbappe is currently hoping to lead Real Madrid to their first treble. Their La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League hopes are still alive.
The Frenchman has scored 31 goals for the Carlos Ancelotti-coached side in 44 appearances while also providing five assists. He recently scored a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League play-off round which they won 3-1.
Real Madrid will next be seen in action against Leganes in the Spanish top flight. The match will be played on Sunday, March 30, at the Santiago Bernabeu.
