Parts of the UK are set to be hotter than Ibiza and Corfu this week. Temperatures could reach 66F (19C) in the south of England on Thursday, which marks the spring equinox.

Becky Mitchell, from the Met Office, said this was eight degrees warmer than the average for this time of year.

‘We’re expecting quite a lot of dry weather and increasing amounts of sunshine as we head through the next few days,’ she told the PA news agency.

In contrast, Ibiza is forecast to reach 63F (17C) on Thursday, with Corfu hitting 61F (16C). But while next week is promising warmer temperatures, the start of the week will still feel chilly with some overnight frost.

Ms Mitchell said: ‘The temperatures we have got are around average – about 50F (10C). But we’ve also got quite a chilly wind so it’s making it feel even colder.’

But on Wednesday, the South East and the Midlands will experience warmer weather.

The next day, the higher temperatures will spread to southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and across England and Wales.
