In 2025, Holika Dahan will be celebrated on March 13, Thursday. The auspicious time for Holika Dahan will start from 10:45 PM and continue till 1:30 AM.
When is Holi in 2025?
According to the Hindu calendar, Holika Dahan usually takes place during the pardosh period of Phalguna Purnima, while Holi is celebrated on the first day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Chaitra. The festival of colours, Holi, is set to be celebrated on March 14.
Significance of Holika Dahan
Performing the rituals during Holika Dahan is believed to be very auspicious and is said to bring peace and prosperity to home. Performing Holika Dahan during the Bhadra period is considered to be inauspicious.
The rituals of Holika Dahan are usually performed at night. Before the burning, Mata Holika is worshipped. One should wake up at sunrise, bathe, and wear clean clothes then proceed to the Holika Dahan site. Offer water, flowers, fruits, garlands, rice grains, sweets, sugarcane, and other items. Then light a ghee lamp and circle Holika five times with a raw cotton thread. These rituals are believed to bring prosperity and happiness to the household.
