World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was shown the exit door at the Halle Open by Alexander Bublik in the second round of the event in Germany in the tune-up to Wimbledon.

Sinner was beaten 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 by the Kazakh on Thursday and opined he had to accept the result and viewed the early exit from Halle as a preparation opportunity for the upcoming grass court major in England.

“I have to accept what happened,” the top-rated men’s player began.

“I’m now going to have a few days rest before Wimbledon, which are going to do me good,” he added.

“Honestly a little break is going to do me good,” Sinner continued.

“I came here to Halle, I gave it my all after the Roland Garros defeat, it wasn’t easy. Despite everything I’m happy enough,” he revealed.

“I’ve played two matches before Wimbledon, if there’d been more it would have been even better,” the 23-year-old said.

“Now I’ve got to boost myself both mentally and physically, that takes a little time,” the Italian said.

However, he vowed that ahead of the grass court grand slam event at SW19 “everything will be fine”.

Sinner got the better of home hope Yannick Hanfmann in the first roud of the event at Halle with a 7-5, 6-3 win, but faltered in the second hurdle against Bublik despite clinching the first set. The Kazakh fought hard to overturn the deficit and close out the game with wins in the second and third sets of the encounter.

Sinner teamed up with renowned Italian opera tenor Andrea Bocelli to release ‘Polvere e Gloria’ on Friday, in a video song, which mean ‘Dust and Glory’ when translated, stars the tennis ace and Bocelli in the video, with parts of the 23-year-old’s speeches following his games also featuring in the lyrics.
