UPI AutoPay
UPI AutoPay Mandate: Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has transformed digital transactions in India, and one of its standout features is UPI AutoPay. Launched by NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), UPI AutoPay allows users to automate recurring payments such as OTT subscriptions, loan EMIs, insurance premiums, mutual fund SIPs, and utility bills — all without manual intervention every time.
What Is UPI AutoPay?
UPI AutoPay is a feature that enables users to set up e-mandates using UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or BHIM. Once approved, the payment is automatically deducted from your bank account at scheduled intervals — daily, weekly, monthly, or as specified by the merchant.
Where Is It Used?
Common use cases include:
- Streaming services like Netflix, Hotstar
- Monthly electricity or mobile bills
- Insurance premiums or EMIs
- SIPs for mutual funds
- Gym memberships or tuition fees
How to Cancel or Delete a UPI AutoPay Mandate
You can cancel a UPI AutoPay mandate anytime through your UPI app:
- Open your UPI-enabled app (e.g., PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm).
- Go to the ‘Mandates’ or ‘AutoPay’ section under UPI settings.
- View active mandates.
- Select the mandate you want to cancel.
- Click on ‘Revoke’ or ‘Cancel’.
The mandate will be immediately disabled, and no future payments will be debited.
Can UPI AutoPay Transactions Be Reversed?
No, once a UPI AutoPay transaction is executed, it cannot be reversed like standard UPI payments. If the payment was made in error or to the wrong merchant, you’ll need to contact the merchant directly for a refund or raise a complaint via your UPI app or bank.
To avoid issues, it’s best to review your mandates regularly and revoke unused or outdated ones.
