Munmun Dutta became a household name for playing Babita in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC). She has portrayed the character in the sitcom for over a decade and a half now. Recently, the 37-year-old actress had a conversation with filmmaker Farah Khan on her YouTube channel, where she discussed her career and how she bagged the role in the sitcom.
The Main Hoon Na director, who has garnered much attention for her YouTube culinary show, went to Munmun’s house to savour some delicious Bengali dishes. During the episode, when the two were chatting, the TMKOC actress recalled her early days in the industry and shared how she got the role in the sitcom.
When Farah asked how she bagged the role, Munmun said, “I got Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah through auditions.” She added, “I had done a show when I was in college, I was 17 years old. I had done the show Hum Sab Baraati at that time, and that was my first ever acting experience. I didn’t even know how to do it.”
The actress further shared that she came to Pune from Kolkata for her studies and that’s when she would visit Mumbai. Recalling her participation in Gladrags, Munmun said, “I started to come to Mumbai for work. I had participated in Gladrags, and I remember I didn’t have money and how much of a struggle I went through. So when I look back I feel I am blessed and happy wherever I reached.”
Furthermore, Munmun also revealed that during the initial stage of her career, she had shot an advertisement with Farah Khan. When the filmmaker asked her which one, the TMKOC actress informed her that they had worked on Navratna Tel’s advertisement. She added that the ad was shot some 15-20 years ago, even before TMKOC premiered on television.
Upon realising the advertisement Munmun was talking about, the Om Shanti Om director mentioned that they shot it in Film City and that Shah Rukh Khan was also involved. However, Farah was surprised to learn that Munmun was also a part of the advertisement. The latter shared that she was one of the three girls in the ad shoot featuring SRK.
The TMKOC actress heaped praises on SRK, saying, “I feel very lucky, and we, as the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah team, always believe we are blessed because Shah Rukh sir holds us in high regard.” Munmun also shared that SRK has been her eternal crush.
