There is no doubt that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has transformed the world of daily transactions. Where once everyone used to carry cash, now a mobile phone is all you need. From buying groceries to sending money to someone, UPI allows you to complete transactions in seconds. All you need is a registered mobile number or UPI ID.
However, for every UPI transaction, one must enter a four or six-digit UPI PIN, which verifies that the payment is being made by the rightful user. Traditionally, a debit card has been used to set this PIN, but now there is another option — an Aadhaar card.
Surprisingly, very few people know that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) offers two options for setting a UPI PIN: the traditional debit card method and an alternative using an Aadhaar card. Here is how you can set your PIN without a debit card.
Essential Requirements For Setting A UPI PIN Via Aadhaar:
- Your phone number must be linked to your Aadhaar number.
- Your mobile number must be registered with your bank account.
Steps To Set A UPI PIN Without A Debit Card:
- Open your UPI app and enter your bank account details.
- Select the option to set up a UPI PIN.
- Choose the Aadhaar option.
- Enter the first six digits of your Aadhaar number for verification.
- Enter the OTP you have received on your registered mobile number.
- You will then be asked to create a UPI PIN.
- Set up a new PIN, re-enter the OTP, and confirm your UPI PIN.
