Delhi Capitals will be led by India allrounder Axar Patel during IPL 2025 hoping to guide the franchise to their maiden title.

Delhi Capitals have announced the appointment of South African Faf du Plessis as their vice-captain for IPL 2025. The 40-year-old Du Plessis captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru for three seasons before being released by the franchise ahead of the IPL mega auction last year.
DC signed the former Chennai Super Kings opener at his base price of Rs 2 crore and he will serve as the deputy to newly installed full-time captain Axar Patel.
DC were in hunt for a new captain after releasing Rishabh Pant in 2024 and failing to buy the wicketkeeper-batter back at the mega auction after Lucknow Super Giant paid a record-breaking Rs 27 crore to get his signature.
Axar was retained by DC for Rs 16.5 crore having played 82 games and scoring 967 runs in them besides picking up 62 wickets as well.
“I’ve grown as a cricketer and a human being during my time here at the Capitals, and I feel ready and confident to lead this side going forward. Our coaches and scouts have done a superb job at the mega auction by putting together a balanced and robust squad which has tremendous potential. We have plenty of leaders in the group which is also very helpful for me, and I can’t wait to join the team as we look forward to a very successful season,” Axar had said after being named as the DC captain.
Overall, in 150 IPL matches, Axar has 1653 runs and 123 wickets to his name. During the 2016 season, he picked up a hat-trick for Punjab Kings, taking four wickets in five deliveries against the now defunct Gujarat Lions.
