Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has credited Ruud van Nistelrooy for improving one of the team’s top performers, Amad Diallo. The Red Devils recently defeated Everton in their Premier League fixture on December 1. Following his team’s convincing 4-0 victory, Amorim praised Diallo in the post-match conference for assisting two goals.
“Amad Diallo was really good again. Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he’s helping me. He’s in a great moment, but that moment started with Ruud. So I just take advantage of Ruud’s work with Amad,” Amorim said, as per multiple outlets.
Van Nistelrooy joined Manchester United in the summer of 2024 as assistant coach. He was brought in alongside fellow manager Rene Hake. Months after his appointment, Van Nistelrooy was ushered into the hot seat after Erik ten Hag’s sacking.
The former Manchester United forward was in charge of the club’s four matches across all competitions before Amorim arrived at Old Trafford. Van Nistelrooy impressed in his limited tenure, winning three times and drawing just once.
Following his impressive run with Manchester United, the Dutchman was appointed Leicester City’s new manager last week. The decision was made days after Steve Cooper was sacked from the position.
As for Amorim, the Sporting Lisbon ex-coach claimed his first PL win as Manchester United manager after beating Everton on Sunday. Both Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkee scored braces in the home fixture.
However, Amorim was particularly impressed with Diallo’s good form in recent matches. “He is really big in talent, but small in size. He did a great job but he also has to improve,” Amorim said.
“He was really good defending and really good attacking so he has to continue to play like that. You could feel it at the end of the game he was really, really tired so we have to manage that and increase his physical ability. I’d like to take credit for Amad’s pressing, but that’s him. He’s like that. He’s smart. He’s explosive,” Amorim concluded.
Manchester United are next set to take on Arsenal in the Premier League. The match is scheduled to be hosted on December 5 at the Emirates Stadium. They are currently in ninth place on the league table and will hope to finish in the top four this season.
