Kyle Walker has upset many Manchester City fans after making a bold statement about his former club, Tottenham Hotspur. The 35-year-old right-back, currently on loan at AC Milan, spoke on the latest episode of his BBC podcast. Walker, who has just one year left on his City contract, did not travel with the squad to the FIFA Club World Cup. Reports suggest this is a sign that City may sell him and Jack Grealish this summer.

In his podcast episode with former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown, Walker spoke about Tottenham’s Europa League final win over Manchester United. During the chat, he said he would “probably” give up one of his Premier League titles to have won that trophy with Spurs.

“I said to you the other day, I’d probably give up one Premier League… not the first… to win that with Tottenham,” Walker told Brown.

He added, “I know what it means to them. I’d probably give my second. It’s hard to give one away, but I would if I could change it. Just for what that moment meant – to say that I was in that Spurs squad that won a trophy.”

These comments did not sit well with some Manchester City fans.

One fan wrote, “How on earth was Kyle Walker captain at Manchester City!? His public speaking is completely off the mark every time he opens his mouth.”

Another added, “It’s like every time he speaks he ruins it a bit more. I think it’s telling that we haven’t missed him at all.”

A third fan posted, “On the pitch, he’s the best RB in City, Premier League and English NT history. But these interviews need to stop.”

“How did we let this become our captain after someone like Ferna?” read a comment.

Not everyone was angry. One supporter defended him, saying, “This really ain’t that deep. Not a great look saying it publicly, but I’m sure many players would trade a title for a trophy with an old team.”

Walker joined Manchester City from Spurs in 2017 and has won multiple titles with the team, including the UEFA Champions League.
