Bihar Assembly on Tuesday witnessed a fiery verbal exchange between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday where the former asserted that he is responsible for the political stature of Tejashwi’s father, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Kumar further invoked the past records of the RJD tenure from 1994 to 2005.
While taking a dig at Yadav in his speech, the Chief Minister said, “What was there in Bihar earlier? It was me who made your father what he became. Even the people from your caste were asking me why I was doing this, but I still supported him.”

“We came here on November 24, 2005. I want to say what kind of situation was there at that time. Nobody would go out in the evening. No road was there. I was a minister in the Centre, we had to go to places on foot. There used to be many confrontations in society,” he added.
What Tejashwi Yadav Said?
Earlier today, Yadav, the Leader of Opposition, had hit out at Nitish Kumar, questioning his narrative of Bihar’s history before 2005. He made a scathing attack on the state government.
“’Sarkar khatara, system khatara, mukhyamantri thaka hara, aadmi ghoom raha mara mara’ (the government is like a rickety old car, the system is defunct, the CM is a spent force and the people are distraught,” Yadav said while addressing the house.
He further took a dig at Nitish’s constant criticism of the RJD and said that ” the world was created after 2005.”
“It was said that there was something before 2005. The world was created after 2005. We should delve a bit into the details and history. It was very necessary to remind them again that all these members were present, and it seemed that the BJP members were present too,” Tejashwi said.
Taking potshots at leaders of both BJP and CM Kumar’s JD(U), he reminded Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of their roots in what is now called the INDIA bloc.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who is a senior JD(U) leader, rose to say, “I admit having been in the Congress. But the leader of the opposition has said a lot about efforts made by his father (RJD president Lalu Prasad) to set right the wrongs committed by the past governments. In effect, he has attacked the Congress, his own alliance partner”.
An unfazed Yadav further trained his guns at Samrat Choudhary, a BJP leader whom the former had preceded as the deputy chief minister.
“You are a counterfeit BJP man. It is your fellow Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha who is the real deal. How many years have it been since you joined the party? Have you ever visited Nagpur (headquarters of the RSS)?” asked Yadav.
A visibly irritated Choudhary shot back, saying “you speak about what bad things your father used to say about all those with whom he joined hands at a later stage”.
“And don’t try to remind me of too many things. I also do remember having been sent to jail by your father,” said Choudhary without elaborating.
The RJD and the JDU have intensified their attacks against each other ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Kumar, who was in alliance with the RJD and the Congress till January 2024, had broken away from the Mahagathbandhan to rejoin the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The Bihar assembly elections are scheduled to happen later this year.
