A woman who moved to one of the UK’s ‘most boring’ towns has revealed why she never wants to leave.
Alice Giddings, 25, relocated from a tiny flat in Shepherd’s Bush to the London suburb of Surbiton.
Located in the south-west of the capital, the neighbourhood is in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
Despite reading the area was a ‘fate worse than death’, on Mumsnet and it being named the second most tedious town in the UK, Alice wrote in Metro how she still happily put a £3,900 deposit on her new home.
She has upgraded to a ‘spacious two-bedroom flat’ and describes the differences between the two locations.
In Shepherd’s Bush, she recalled having ‘no sense of safety’ and regularly received abuse from men in the street.
The west London borough is bustling with bars, restaurants and busy workers heading to their offices.
But it comes with some problems, Alice recalls how there was often noise on her busy road, from workmen, heaving pubs and emergency sirens.

Now, residing in sleepy and ‘boring’ Surbiton, Alice claims she never wishes to leave the area.
There are some downsides to her new town, however, and she acknowledges it may not be suitable for everyone.
Alice describes the council tax as ‘extortionate’ but notes that it isn’t higher than what she was paying before.
While Alice’s commute into Kensington is much pricier, though it takes the same amount of time as when she lived in Shepherd’s Bush.
But the negatives are easily beaten by the positives for Alice.
She feels safe, rarely hears traffic going by and is able to enjoy a balcony she could never afford in west London.
Alice has found plenty of new places to enjoy spending her time including Bushy Park and Hampton Court Park.
There’s plenty of shops to fulfil her needs, from John Lewis to H&M and Fenwick’s, Alice is full of praise despite being more accustomed to the largest shopping centre in Europe, Westfield.

Only a 25-minute walk from Kingston, Alice makes the most of the nearby attractions including the Kingston Historic Market.
More locally, she enjoys the Surbiton Farmers Market.
Alice isn’t far away from the hustle and bustle of central London either, and can easily reach London Waterloo in 20 minutes.
After swapping ‘rowdy streets, terrible bin collections and constant stress’ for a peaceful town with green spaces, Alice is happy with the move.
