Former US President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Sunday to criticise ABC News, questioning the network’s integrity and fairness ahead of a presidential debate with Democratic rival Kamala Harris next month.
On Sunday, Trump expressed his disapproval of a recent interview conducted by ABC’s Jonathan Karl, whom he labeled as a “lightweight reporter” and accused of bias. He also targeted ABC’s panel of commentators, calling them “Trump haters” and suggesting that their questions would be unfairly tilted.
‘I watched ABC FAKE NEWS’
Trump had initially agreed to a debate with US President Joe Biden, scheduled to air on ABC News on September 10. However, after Biden was replaced by Kamala Harris at the top of the Democratic ticket, Trump questioned his participation in the debate.
Despite Trump’s reservations, both sides later confirmed that the September 10 debate would proceed as planned on ABC News. Trump had sought additional debates on Fox News and NBC News, but the Harris campaign stated that it would only commit to the ABC News event before considering any further debates.
I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s(K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network? Will…— Donald J. Trump Posts From His Truth Social (@TrumpDailyPosts) August 26, 2024
In his post, Trump raised concerns about the network’s handling of debates, questioning whether Donna Brazile, a former CNN contributor, would provide questions to Harris, similar to allegations made against her regarding another Democratic heavyweight Hillary Clinton.
He also inquired about the involvement of George Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton aide and current ABC anchor, and slammed Harris for declining debate invitations from other major networks such as Fox, NBC, CBS, and CNN. Trump concluded his post with a challenge to ABC News, stating, “They’ve got a lot of questions to answer!!! Stay tuned!!!”
Trump’s comments come one day after Harris accepted the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination with a muscular speech that laid down broad foreign policy principles and sharp contrasts with Trump with 11 weeks left until Election Day.
The Republican and his aides hope Thursday’s boisterous convention finale marks the end of the honeymoon period for Harris, who emerged as the Democratic candidate little more than a month ago, after President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed her.
During Harris’ acceptance speech in Chicago, Trump attacked her with dozens of posts on his Truth Social platform, calling her a liar, a Marxist and “Comrade Kamala Harris.” One post simply asked: “IS SHE TALKING ABOUT ME?”
