Ian ‘H’ Watkins was eliminated from celebrity MasterChef this week.

The 48-year-old singer, who is best known for starring in the pop group Steps, became the latest contestant to leave the BBC show after failing to impress judges John Torode, 59, and Gregg Wallace, also 59, with his dish inspired by well-known chef Heston Blumenthal.

After the decision was announced, Ian thanked the judges for ‘changing my life’ and gave them a sweet hug before bidding them farewell.

He said: ‘I have had the craziest, most amazing time.’

‘Thank you for changing my life. Seriously. I mean it – bless you, bless you.’

The chart-topping pop star also admitted that he exceeded his own expectations during his time on the hit BBC show.

He confessed: ‘I am absolutely amazed that I even made it this far.’

‘There’s a little bit of me that would have loved to carry on, but I’m so proud of myself. I’ve learned so much, you know, I can filet a fish. I can make pasta. I can cook a lobster.’

He then joked: ‘I will tell you, I will be eating out every night this month…’

His exit comes after he admitted last month that he had never even cooked for family or friends before.

When asked how his cooking usually goes down with friends and family Ian said ‘Erm, it doesn’t!

‘My usual menu consists either of a takeaway or tapas style ‘picky bits’ from a packet… or bring your own!’

On why he wanted to take part in the show he added: ‘I wanted a challenge to sink my teeth into. I am known by my friends and family for not being able to cook up until this point!’

‘When it comes to cooking, I’d say that I’m an expert with the air fryer and the microwave, so I wanted to take on Celebrity MasterChef to develop a skill that I could involve my children and family with going forward.’

Last month, Ian was left in tears after he suffered a blunder in the kitchen.

During the episode, he was paired with This Morning’s Craig Doyle for a challenge and was tasked with making matching cannolis stuffed with ricotta creams.

Then fellow judge Gregg added: ‘They look similar and yet different. Yours are thinner Craig,’ then focusing on Ian’s creation, added: ‘But yours are rounder and tubbier.’

Ian then told teammate Craig: ‘I feel like crying!’ as the This Morning star told him ‘well done’.
