The 71-year-old expressed his joy in being able to make his return to Indian shores as the T20 franchise league reaches fever pitch, after his triumph in his battle against throat cancer.

Iconic Welsh commentator Alan Wilkins took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to share an incredible bit of news pertaining to his permit to work on the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League after he was granted clearance from throat cancer. The 71-year-old expressed his joy in being able to make the trip down to the Indian shores as the T20 franchise league reaches fever pitch.

“Knowing that I am heading to India to work on the @IPL after being given the All Clear from throat cancer by @VelindreCS @VelindreTrust @Velindre makes me feel incredibly blessed. And “young” again! Never Give Up.” his update read.

The former left-arm pacer made over a century of First Class appearances, claiming 243 wickets, before a shoulder injury cut his career short. He also had 104 List-A caps, before moving on to broadcasting in the year 1984.

He was part of the IPL commentary panel during the 2013, and  2014 campaigns of the money-rich T20 extravaganza while also hosting in-house shows in the 2015 and 2018 seasons.

Wilkins, who has also lent his voice to multiple other sports including tennis, rugby, and golf, was also appointed the head of Welsh County Club Glamorgan on a three-year contract.

The 18th edition of the IPL is in full swing as the ten teams go in search of the coveted crown. Former champions Gujarat Titans lead the table followed by Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Lucknow Super Ginats, who all have eight points each and are separated by NR.

Holders Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings sit fifth and sixth on 6 points each, followed by Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Sunisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings, all on 4 points.
