The Indian junior women’s hockey team began their European tour on a high note with a 3-2 victory over hosts Belgium in Antwerp on Sunday.
India took the lead with a goal from Geeta Yadav in the 11th minute. However, Belgium equalised in the second quarter through Marie Goenns in the 25th minute.
Belgium then went ahead when Louise van Hecke scored in the 34th minute.
India staged a strong comeback, leveling the scores with a goal from Sonam in the 40th minute.
The visitors continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded with a penalty corner, which Lalthantluangi successfully converted in the 45th minute.
After taking the lead, India maintained solid defense, preventing Belgium from equalizing.
India will face Belgium again on June 10 in the second match of their European tour.
