Amid heightened tensions, Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed India intends to carry out military action against Pakistan in the next 24-36 hours, based on “credible” intelligence reports.

This came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Indian armed forces have complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets, and timing of the nation’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 tourists were killed.

Tarar said Indian forces were preparing to launch an attack “on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations of involvement” in the Pahalgam terror attack. “Pakistan has been the victim of terrorism itself and truly understands the pain of this scourge. We have always condemned it in all its forms and manifestations anywhere in the world.”

Tarar said India was assuming the role of “judge, jury and executioner” in the region. “Being a responsible state, Pakistan open heartedly offered a credible, transparent and independent investigation by a neutral commission of experts to ascertain the truth,” he said.

Tarar further warned that such “military adventurism” by India would receive a decisive response. “The International community must remain alive to the reality that the onus of an escalatory spiral and its ensuing consequences shall squarely lie with India,” he added.

India’s Response To Pahalgam Attack

Prime Minister Modi convened a high-level security meeting, where he emphasised a national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism after the barbaric terrorist attack on April 22 that shook the country and sparked global condemnation. He expressed complete faith and confidence in the professional abilities of the Indian armed forces, government sources said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Services (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Chief Marshal (ACM) AP Singh, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi were present in the meeting at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in the capital.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that a military incursion by India was “imminent”, adding that Islamabad has reinforced its forces. Though Pakistan has officially denied its involvement, the Resistance Front (TRF), a rebranded proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, tensions at the border remain high as the Pakistani Army resorted to ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) for the sixth consecutive night, to which the Indian Army retaliated “swiftly and proportionately”.

UN Chief Speaks To Jaishankar, Pakistan PM

Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres spoke to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to urge the two countries to de-escalate tensions and pursue justice and accountability through lawful means.

Guterres “expressed his deep concern at rising tensions between India and Pakistan and underscored the need to avoid a confrontation that could result in tragic consequences. He offered his Good Offices to support de-escalation efforts,” his spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

While Jaishankar appreciated Guterres’ “unequivocal condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam”, Shehbaz Sharif failed to label the Pahalgam terror attack as a “terrorist attack” and referred to it as an “incident”.

Meanwhile, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said the Trump administration was encouraging all parties to work together for a “responsible solution”.
