India vs Australia Live Score, 5th Test Day 1 (India National Cricket Team vs Australia National Cricket Team, Border-Gavaskar Trophy): Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat first in the ongoing fifth Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, but his decision turned out to be a disaster in the first hour itself after Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland dismissed KL Rahul (4) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (10), respectively.
While Rahul was caught by Sam Konstas on the last of the fifth over inside the 30-yard circle, Jaiswal handed a simple catch to Beau Webster on the fourth ball of his first over of the match.
Shubman Gill added 40 runs for the third wicket with Virat Kohli (12) before throwing away his wicket on the last ball before lunch.
No Rohit for India
Rohit Sharma, who has been horribly out of form these days, has ‘opted to rest’ for the ongoing match at the SCG.

The introduction of Scott Boland proved to be a good one as he made immediate inroads, sending Jaiswal packing in the very first over. And all of a sudden, both openers were back in the pavilion within the first hour of play. Boland nearly added Kohli to his tally, targeting the right-hander’s well-documented weakness outside off-stump, but fortune smiled on the batter as he survived the testing spell.
Overcast skies, grassy pitch with a fair bit of movement either way. A bowler’s treat to start with as Australia were invited bowl first. The Indian openers did start off cautiously with Jaiswal being watchful and KL Rahul not poking at anything served outside off. Cummins and Starc examined both of them for a fair bit and set up a strong tone with the ball.  Starc drew first blood, inducing a tentative push from Rahul that resulted in a soft dismissal.
LUNCH, DAY 1 – 25 overs, 57 runs and 3 wickets! Australia’s session fair and square. The hosts have managed to send the top three of the opposition back into the sheds and are firmly in the driver’s seat at the moment. India would be very disappointed as after two quick breakthroughs, things did settle up nicely for them as the Gill and Kohli alliance was blossoming at a gentle pace. However, Test cricket is all about sustainability and the ability to maintain the patience level, where Gill miserably threw away his wicket.
24.6 – OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Nathan Lyon strikes at the stroke of the Lunch break! Something seemed to be brewing as the men around the bat exchanged a few words with Gill, who wandered down the track to ensure it was the last over before the break. This is pushed across the right-hander, on a nagging length, around off, Gill premeditates as he charges down the track. He is nowhere near the pitch of the ball and just hangs his bat out there to defend. The outside edge is found and it goes straight to Steven Smith at first slip who takes it near his waist safely. Gill is absolutely distraught. Australia’s happiness knows no bounds as they get around Lyon.

21.3 – Beaten! Bowled with an upright seam, in the channel on off, drawing the batter forward, Gill looks to defend with his bat close to the front pad. The ball holds its line and zips past the outside edge.
21.2 – At 125.7 kph, full and at the stumps, Gill takes a couple of steps down the track and whips it to the right of mid on. Both batters think about a single but in the end, decide against it.
