Indian Govt Has A Major Warning For Chrome Users: What Is The Issue And What You Should Do

Last Updated:

Chrome security risk alert issued by the Indian government will surely worry millions of users who rely on the browser for their work and personal use.

The Indian govt is warning millions of Chrome users about the new risk.

Chrome users have got a major security warning from the Indian government in April 2025. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-IN, which falls under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, on April 4 issued a ‘high-severity’ alert to users of Google Chrome on popular platforms like Windows, macOS and Linux.

What The Chrome Risk Means For You

The agency says that “multiple vulnerabilities” exist in the affected versions of Google Chrome, which an attacker could exploit, and potentially allow a remote attacker to “execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.”

So, what are these issues that the CERT-In is talking about in its threat report? “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Inappropriate implementation in Custom Tabs, Intents, Extensions, Navigations, Autofill and Downloads. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page.”

Which Chrome Versions Are At Risk

Chrome users on Windows, macOS and Linux with these versions running on their systems need to act on the security issues right away:

  • Google Chrome versions prior to 135.0.7049.52 for Linux
  • Google Chrome versions prior to 135.0.7049.41/42 for Window and Mac

How To Secure Your Chrome Version

To keep your browser safe from these threats the only way out is to update your Google Chrome browser. This action will address the vulnerabilities, eliminating any cause for concern.

How to update Google Chrome

  • Access the menu with three dots located in the upper left corner
  • Click on ‘Help’
  • Now, click on ‘About Google Chrome
  • Chrome will auto-check for updates and install for your version

Once the update is installed, Chrome will relaunch and then show this message “Google Chrome is up to date.”

Earlier this month, the security agency had a similar alert for iPhone, Mac and iPad users in the country, warning them of possible hacking risk because of issues in their operating systems for which Apple has already issued a patch.
