India has a total of 1,063 toll plazas of which 457 were constructed in the last five years.

Over the past five years, ten toll plazas across India have amassed nearly ₹14,000 crore in toll collections, as per data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) presented in Lok Sabha.
Among them, the Bharthana toll plaza on NH-48 in Gujarat reported the highest earnings, collecting ₹2,043.81 crore from 2019-20 to 2023-24. Situated on the Vadodara-Bharuch stretch, it recorded its highest annual collection of ₹472.65 crore in 2023-24.
Next on the list is Shahjahanpur toll plaza in Rajasthan with a collection of Rs 1,884.46 crore. It lies on the Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur section of NH-48, a key corridor that connects Delhi and Mumbai.
Situated on the Dhankuni-Kharagpur stretch of NH-16, the Jaladhulagori toll plaza in West Bengal is third on the list which has accumulated Rs 1,538.91 crore. It runs along the east coast and is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project.
Close behind is the Barajore toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh with a total collection of Rs 1,480.75 crore. This plaza is located on the Etawah-Chakeri (Kanpur) section of NH-19 which forms a major part of the Grand Trunk Road.
The Gharonda toll plaza on NH-44 is ranked fifth with Rs 1,314.37 crore in toll fees collected over the last five years. It is located on the Panipat-Jalandhar section of the highway which runs from Srinagar to Kanyakumari. It is also the longest highway in India.
The other toll plazas in the top ten include Choryasi on the Bharuch-Surat section of NH-48 in Gujarat and Thikariya/Jaipur on the Jaipur-Kishangarh section of the same highway in Rajasthan. L&T Krishnagiri Thopur on the Krishnagiri-Thumbipadi section of NH-44 in Tamil Nadu also made it to the list.
Nawabganj, located on the Kanpur-Ayodhya section of NH-25 in Uttar Pradesh and Sasaram which lies on the Varanasi-Aurangabad section of NH-2 in Bihar, are also among the high-revenue toll plazas.
These ten toll plazas collected a total of Rs 13,988.51 crore over five years. This accounts for more than seven per cent of the toll revenue in the country. According to the Ministry, from 2019-20 to 2023-24, all toll plazas across India generated Rs 1.93 lakh crore. In 2023-24 alone, the total collection stood at Rs 55,882 crore.
