Inside Rihanna and Ciara’s bitter social media feud as the stars are reunited on the Met Gala red carpet 14 years on

The 2025 Met Gala brought the hottest stars onto the red carpet as the créme de la créme of fashion lovers celebrated Black fashion and dandyism through this year’s Superfine theme.

Statements were made and spirits were high – so high in fact that the occasion appeared to mend a notorious A-list rift.

The most coveted fashion event of the year hosted the unexpected reunion of Ciara and Rihanna nearly 15 years after a very public Twitter spat that saw the RnB divas go head to head in a war of vicious words.

The touching moment took place at the Met Gala’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, where Ciara, 39, sweetly cradled 37-year-old Rihanna’s blossoming baby bump.

Two historical moments collided as the event also marked Rihanna’s official announcement of baby number three with long time partner and Met Gala co-chair, rapper A$AP Rocky.

Back in 2011 the Diamonds singer hit out at Ciara after the mother-of-four claimed on U.S. TV show Fashion Police that Rihanna had ignored her when they met at a party.

Known back then as the ‘queen of clapbacks’ for her instant and often brutal remarks – including calling fellow singer Teyana Taylor a ‘broke b**ch’ in 2013 – Rihanna seemingly replied to Ciara by tweeting: ‘My bad Ci, did I 4get to tip u?’

Ciara then hit back by hinting that she was ready to square up for a physical altercation with Rihanna if she ever saw her in person.

The two ladies, then in their early 20s, continued to war back and forth before suddenly retracting their statements and issuing public apologies to each other.

Before the incident, the singers were sometimes snapped together at red carpet events.  However following on from the savage spat, the ladies kept out of each other’s way and rarely posed together despite attending the same public events.

That is until last night. Fans were left shell shocked when the Level Up songstress and expectant mother posed side by side while bearing the largest of smiles.

Their glee couldn’t be contained as Ciara reached over to Rihanna’s growing baby bump and cradled it lovingly as the two posed up a storm.

It was a perfect public rekindling of a friendship as the pair looked exceptionally stylish – both making ‘best dressed’ lists across the media canon.

The theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style – inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

Attending with her husband Russell Wilson, Ciara looked formidable in a delectable black turtleneck LaQuan Smith gown with a flowing tail.

The stunning dress featured chain detailing and cut out shapes, while the ensemble clung to her svelte physique and showed off her enviable figure eight.

And in true form, Rihanna brought her style a-game to the glamorous event in a black and pinstripe tailored suit gown by Marc Jacobs.

The cropped jacket fit perfectly around her burgeoning baby bump, while her pinstripe maxi skirt accentuated her toned legs by way of a high split.

Meanwhile their men A$AP Rocky and Russell Wilson looked as suave as ever in tailored black suits and crisp white shirts.

The Fashion Killa rapper, 36, who earlier this year was found not guilty of shooting a former friend, and NFL sportsman, also 36, posed up a storm together alongside their ladies and actor Jeff Goldblum.

But RnB fans will never forget what happened between Ciara and Rihanna 14 years ago.

The row was allegedly started by Ciara, who claimed on E!’s Fashion Police that Rihanna had ignored her when the pair saw each other at a party.

Then a guest judge on the show made famous by late fashion commentator and comedienne Joan Rivers, Ciara told of her disdain at how she was treated by Rihanna.

‘I ran into her recently at a party,’ she told fellow presenters. ‘She wasn’t the nicest.

‘It’s crazy, because I’ve always loved and respected what she’s done in fashion. It wasn’t the most pleasant run-in’ she added.

Rihanna was quick to respond her comments, tweeting: ‘My bad Ci, did I 4get to tip u?

‘U gangsta huh? Haaa’.

The two then embarked on a celebrity spat now remembered for its cutting and very public insults.

‘Trust me Rihanna you don’t want to see me on or off the stage,’ said Ciara.

At which Rihanna mocked: ‘Good luck with bookin that stage u speak of’.

‘Pure comedy,’ responded Ciara.

However along the way, the women seemed to have realised they had taken things a bit too far and decided to dial it back.

Rihanna was the first to backtrack, saying: ‘Ciara baby, I love u girl! U hurt my feelings real bad on TV! I’m heartbroken! That’s y I retaliated this way! So sorry!’

To which Ciara sorrowfully responded: ‘Rhi, u know its always been love since day 1! Doing shows and everything. You threw me off in that party! Apology accepted. Let’s chat in person’.

It’s unclear if this in-person meeting ever occurred, however in 2016, Ciara insisted the stars had moved past the feud and even branded Rihanna ‘amazing’.

After hosting the Billboard Music Awards alongside rapper Ludacris, the 1,2 Step hitmaker called out MTV for stirring up trouble after they suggested she refused to say Rihanna’s name during the star-studded Las Vegas ceremony.

Ciara was frustrated when she saw a tweet, which has since been deleted from MTV Music’s account.

The tweet at the time read: ‘Luda, you know Ciara won’t say Rihanna’s name.’

Ciara took offence, replying to the post and insisting that she thought Rihanna’s performance of her new track Love On The Brain was ‘amazing’.

She wrote: ‘Thought She Was Amazing. 1 Of The Best Performances Of The Night Don’t Understand The Need 2 Go Here. #What’sThePoint?’

Ciara then asked the account exactly who was tweeting on their behalf, writing: ‘@MTVMusic Furthermore, who’s the “newbee” tweeting on behalf of MTV?’

Before adding: ‘@MTVMusic There’s no way someone of experience is posting content like that during a show of this caliber. God Bless #SpreadLove’.

The Met Gala 2025 was also a memorable night for its fashion firsts – including the moment Diana Ross graced the red carpet for the first time in 20 years.

The legendary singer stunned in an ethereal white gown put together by herself, her son Evan Ross and Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie.

Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Gigi Hadid all won style points for their impeccable outfits, as they brought out stylish glamour.

So did the likes of Kerry Washington, model Anok Yai and Nigerian singer Tems, alongside Nicki Minaj and Savannah James, the latter of which attended solo after her husband and NBA living legend LeBron James bowed out following a sports injury.
