Inzamam ul Haq Takes Dig At IPL, BCCI: ‘Boards Should Stop Sending Their Players’ (Picture credit: AP)
Former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has called for an IPL boycott in a vicious attack on BCCI amidst the Champions Trophy row. India refused to travel to the neighbouring country for the tournament due to security concerns and are playing their matches in Dubai.
Inzamam requested other cricketing boards across the world to unite in boycotting the IPL.
Amidst the controversy, Inzamam called for a global boycott of IPL. He reminded other boards that India doesn’t permit their players to take part in overseas leagues, but players from foreign nations do play in the IPL.
“Keep aside the Champions Trophy. Top players participate in IPL, but Indian players don’t participate in other leagues. Other boards should stop sending their players to IPL,” Inzamam said while speaking on a Pakistan TV channel.
It isn’t permitted for any Indian cricketer under BCCI to play in overseas leagues unless the player announces retirement from Indian cricket, which includes IPL and domestic tournaments.
Meanwhile, the Aussie side has already left for Dubai, while South Africa left for the same city late Saturday night ahead of the Champions Trophy semifinals, even though it remains uncertain whether their games will be held there or not.
Dubai is all set to host the first semifinal on Tuesday, with Lahore hosting the second on Wednesday.
India’s semifinal opponents, either Australia or South Africa, will be known just after their last Group A game against New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday.
Because of security concerns in Pakistan, India are playing all of their games in Dubai, which hasn’t gone down well with Inzamam.
According to reports, the Aussie team have already left for Dubai after a discussion among the members of the team management. They left after their game against Afghanistan, which was abandoned because of rain on Friday night in Lahore.
Some of the members of the Afghanistan team left for Dubai on the same flight to see if they have any opportunity of making it to the semis, as per reports, but their hopes were dashed after England lost to South Africa.
India, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa are the four semifinalists of the Champions Trophy.
