Apple launched the iPhone 16 recently but its users have been warned about a major security risk that affects a wide range of MacBook and iPad users.
Apple users in India have got a new security warning from the nodal security agency of the Indian government this week. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued the alert with a high severity rating, dated September 19, 2024. The security issue is really big because it affects major parts of Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch series and Macs. Here is a detailed look at the vulnerability, which devices are impacted and how to secure your iPhone from possible threats.
Apple Security Risk: What CERT-In Says
As noted by CERT-In, these security vulnerabilities exist in Apple products which could allow an attacker to access sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, cause denial of service (DoS) conditions, bypass authentication, gain elevated privileges and perform spoofing attacks on the targeted systems.
The list is quite detailed, so we advise you to head over to the CERT-In website and get the details for the new Apple security risk explained. Going further into the security bulletin, these are the Apple platforms and their versions affected by the vulnerabilities:
– Apple iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 18
– Apple iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 17.7
– Apple Safari versions prior to 18
– Apple watchOS versions prior to 11
– Apple tvOS versions prior to 18
– Apple macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.7
– Apple macOS Sonoma versions prior to 14.7
– Apple visionOS versions prior to 2
As you can see here, the Apple software versions affected by the security issue includes the previous flagship device iPhone 15 Pro Max, along with many other older iPhone models. The list also includes devices like the MacBooks, Vision Pro headset, Apple Watch Series 8 and even the Apple TV. You also have a range of iPad and iPad Pro models mentioned within the list with their respective software versions. Older iPhone models like 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X users also need to be aware of the vulnerability.
