Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed US President Donald Trump’s renewed maximum pressure campaign, calling it a “failed experiment”. Trump’s latest sanctions aim to cut Tehran’s oil exports to zero, prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, limit its ballistic missile programme and halt its support for terrorism. Iran maintains its nuclear programme is peaceful, with uranium enrichment reaching 60%, just below weapons-grade levels. Araghchi expressed Iran’s openness to nuclear negotiations, asserting that preventing nuclear weapon development is achievable under the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Trump has called for a “verified nuclear peace agreement” with Iran while denying claims of military action. Meanwhile, Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem as his representative in Lebanon, following Hassan Nasrallah’s death in an Israeli airstrike. n18oc_world n18oc_crux
