Karun Nair was in red-hot form for Vidarbha in the 2024-25 domestic season, and on Friday, May 16, he earned a reward for his super show with the bat by getting selected in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of England. India A will play three four-day matches in England, two of which are against England Lions in Canterbury from May 30 to June 2 and in Northampton from June 6 to 9.

After Nair, who has played six Tests and two ODIs for India in the 2016-17 season, got picked for the India A squad, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to X to post a tweet which is now going viral on the internet.

In his tweet, Pathan wrote, “Karun Nair getting selected for India A is clear indication that “Dear cricket will him give him another chance to play for team India again.”

Nair, who has scored a triple century against England in Test cricket, will have a chance to do well for India A in the upcoming matches and push for his selection in the senior India men’s team after a gap of eight years. The 33-year-old right-handed middle-order batter last played Test cricket for India in March 2017 against Australia at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

A couple of days back, he was backed by former India Test captain and star spinner Anil Kumble as Virat Kohli’s No. 4 replacement in the Indian Test team.

“Karun deserves to come back into the Indian team with the kind of domestic run he has had. So perhaps he could be the No. 4 for India because I feel you need a bit of experience. You need someone in England who has been there and done that. He has played county cricket, so he knows the conditions. Karun may be on the other side of 30, but he is still young. If he gets an opportunity, there will be a lot more hope for youngsters to play first-class cricket. If the sheer performance in domestic cricket doesn’t get recognised, it becomes a bit of a challenge,” Kumble said on ESPNCricinfo.
