Odisha FC and Mohammedan SC could not find the back of the net as many players suffered injuries in the 2024-25 Indian Super League.
Odisha FC and Mohammedan SC played out a goalless draw in the Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Friday.
It was a feisty start to the match as neither team was willing to yield an inch with the mid-field becoming the point of contention. In the third minute, Mirjalol Kasimov found his name being jotted down by the referee for a poor tackle from behind.
Odisha wanted possession of the ball and dictated the tempo but could not manage a single shot on goal in the first half-an-hour of play. Mohammedan, on the other hand, had a couple of chances but none were clinical enough to break the deadlock.
Franca and Carlos Delgado clashed as both went for a header. The physios were called on to make sure neither suffered a concussion. Franca continued to battle on for around 10 minutes but had to be substituted for Cesar Manzoki at the 40th.
At half-time, Franca was rushed to the hospital for further checks.
After the restart, Odisha looked far more proactive. Diego MaurÃcio had a shot from the edge of the penalty box blocked.
There was another clash of heads in the 52nd minute. Manzoki had his foot stuck in the pitch as he fell onto Jerry Lalrinzuala. Both players went down clutching their faces as the physios rushed out to the field again. The referee though decided to flash a yellow card to Manzoki.
Mohammedan came close to breaking the deadline in the 66th minute as Alexis Gomez’s shot from the edge of the box rattled the crossbar. Barely two minutes later, Florent Ogier’s shot did not have enough power or direction to trouble Odisha.
Remsanga had another chance to give Mohammedan the lead but Amrinder somehow kept out his right-footed flick at the near post.
In the 81st minute, Fall crashed into Manzoki, twisting his knee the other way. The physios were out on the field again as was the stretcher. Manzoki was not able to continue and was replaced by Adison Singh as Fall went into the referee’s book.
With the clock hitting the 90s, Bikash Singh went down in the middle of the field as the physios rushed out again and had to be stretchered off.
Diego Mauricio had a chance to score but his header went just over the bar. Mohammedan had multiple chances with eight minutes added on for multiple stoppages but the game ended as it started.
