The relentless war between Iran and Israel is showing no signs of slowing down, and neither is the courage of ordinary citizens caught in its crossfire. Amid nightly images of explosions, fire, and flattened buildings, one video has captured global attention for a very different reason; an Iranian news anchor, live on air, continuing her broadcast moments after a missile strike.
On June 16, 2025, as Israeli missiles rained down on key Iranian installations, one of the targeted sites was the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran. Inside the studio, anchor Sahar Emani was delivering a live bulletin when a deafening explosion shook the building.
Within seconds, smoke and debris filled the studio. The broadcast was briefly interrupted, with viewers left in shock. But what happened next was even more stunning; Sahar Emani reappeared on screens, not long after the blast, from a secondary studio, continuing the broadcast with poise and determination. Her calm demeanour, despite the chaos, has since made her a symbol of resilience in the face of war.
Who is Sahar Emani?
Sahar Emani, a household name in Iran, is not just a seasoned broadcaster; she’s also a trained food engineer who transitioned into journalism in 2010. Since then, she has become a prominent face on Iran’s official Arabic-language news channel. Known for her modest on-screen presence, wearing a hijab (head cover), and is recognised for her straightforward delivery and signature finger-pointing style during reports.
Married with one child, Emani is widely respected for her professionalism. But her actions on June 16 have now made her internationally famous.
Clips of Emani’s post-blast broadcast have gone viral across social media platforms, particularly on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), where her bravery is being hailed as “extraordinary” and “unshakable”. BreakThrough News, a global alternative media platform, shared the viral footage, amplifying her image far beyond Iran’s borders.
Even Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Zahra Bahramzadeh Azar, weighed in, calling Emani “a symbol of women’s courage” and praising her for being the voice of all Iranians in the face of foreign aggression.
Comparisons are also being drawn between her firm, composed delivery and the body language of some of Iran’s top leaders, particularly her pointed finger, now being adopted by netizens as a gesture of defiance and patriotism.
As the Israel-Iran conflict continues to escalate – with airstrikes, retaliations, and military targets being hit in densely populated zones – the human stories behind the headlines are beginning to define the moment.
