Italy’s Meloni Shares ‘Linked By Great Friendship’ Post After Meeting PM Modi at G7 | World News

Giorgia Meloni took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a photograph of the meeting, captioned, “Italy and India, linked by a great friendship.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described Italy and India as “linked by a great friendship” after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis.

The two leaders were seen sharing a brief, candid moment during the summit- shaking hands and smiling in a warm exchange. Giorgia Meloni took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a photograph of the meeting, captioned, “Italy and India, linked by a great friendship.”

The two leaders have met multiple times at global forums often drawing public interest and internet chatter. In a recent podcast appearance, when asked about the memes featuring him and Giorgia Meloni, PM Modi laughed and said, “Woh toh chalta rehta hai” (That keeps happening).

PM Modi’s Meetings At G7

PM Modi also interacted with other global leaders during the high-powered summit. The Prime Minister met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney shortly after arriving in Kananaskis. Thanking Mark Carney for the invitation, he said he was “fortunate to visit Canada once again after 2015 and connect with the people.” Both leaders acknowledged the importance of re-energizing India–Canada ties, with Mark Carney describing PM Modi’s presence as “a testament to [India’s] leadership and importance.”

PM Modi also held formal bilateral meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. With Emmanuel Macron, he discussed ongoing cooperation in defence, nuclear energy and the Indo-Pacific while his meeting with Chancellor Merz was focused on trade, security and counter-terrorism.

Additionally, PM Modi met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
