Trevoh Chalobah was exceptional in his first appearance for Chelsea after coming back from his loan spell at Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old centre-back got an assist to his name as Chelsea registered a 3-1 win over Wolves in a Premier League game at home. Chalobah had almost struck the third goal for the hosts. Noni Madueke, however, demonstrated his “attacker instinct” to have the last touch on the ball. After the match was wrapped up at Stamford Bridge, Madueke poked fun at Chalobah, referring to the strike.
During an interaction with Sky Sports, the English forward revealed that he had instantly apologised to Chalobah for “stealing’ his goal. “It’s instinct. I said sorry to Trevoh after. I had to put this in the net for sure… An assist on his first game back is great for him! That’s my brother,” Madueke said, as per the Metro.
“He was telling me, ‘No way you took my goal, no way you took my goal!’ But, I told him, ‘Bro, come on, you have to understand that this is what they pay me to do’,” he added. Madueke further heaped praises on Chalobah for his performance in the back line.
“He was unbelievable (as a defender). Leadership, character, bravery on the ball. He slotted in seamlessly so I am delighted for him. ‘It is no coincidence with players like him and Reece James back in we won the game. They are Chelsea through and through and they helped us tonight with their leadership for sure,” Madueke explained.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was also proud of how his defenders showcased their A-game in the home fixture. “They did fantastic, Tosin and Trev, all of them were good, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall too. All of them had a long time without playing a game for us and overall the performance was good,” the Italian manager said at the post-match press conference.
It was Chelsea’s first win in the last five Premier League matches. They remain fourth in the league table, following Liverpool, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. Chelsea have claimed 40 points from 22 matches. They will next face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on January 25.
