Amid the ongoing allegations against Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho, former Ivory Coast skipper Didier Drogba jumped to the defence of his former head coach back during his Chelsea days. Drogba, who enjoyed a glittery stint under Mourinho, winning multiple Premier League titles together, went on to play for Galatasaray and assured his former club that the Portuguese manager is not a racist.
The row comes on the back of the derby between the sides, following which Mourinho remarked that the game would have been a disaster had it been officiated by a ‘Turkish’ referee.
Dear @GalatasaraySKYou know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey!!
We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience it.

“Dear @GalatasaraySK You know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey,” Drogba began.
“We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience it,” he continued.
“Ive seen the recent comments about Jose Mourinho. Trust me when I tell you I have known Jose for 25 years and he is not a racist and history (past and recent ) is there to prove it,” the former Ivory Coast skipper said.
“Let’s focus on our games, support our brilliant lions and let’s win the league to get close to our 5 stars,”
” How can my “Dad” be a racist? Come on guys,” he concluded.
Fenerbahce also backed their head coach, stating that they will use the legal rights at their disposal to address the attempt by Galatasaay to take the rivalry off the field.
“Trying to portray this statement as a racist statement is a completely malicious approach. We inform the public that we will use our legal rights regarding this incompetent slander, which is thrown in order to take the rivalry off the field, change and manipulate the agenda,” said the statement.
