Norwich City have announced that first-team coach Jack Wilshere has departed the club by mutual consent. Wilshere, a former Arsenal midfielder, joined Norwich’s coaching staff in October 2024 after previously serving as head coach of Arsenal’s Under-18s.
After the exit of Johannes Hoff Thorup, Wilshere took on the role of interim head coach for Norwich’s last two Championship matches, which concluded with a 0-0 draw against Middlesborough and a 4-2 victory over Cardiff City on the season’s final day.
Thorup, who was appointed in May 2024, was dismissed following a 1-3 defeat to Millwall. Norwich finished the Championship season in 13th place, winning 14, drawing 14, and losing 17 of their 46 games. They were 11 points short of the play-off positions and are now aiming to stabilize the team and secure a promotion to the Premier League, a feat they last achieved at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Sporting director Ben Knapper stated, “Jack made a significant impact during his time with us. He fostered excellent relationships with our players and staff, and we are all sad to see him leave. We greatly appreciate him stepping in as interim head coach for the final two games of the season. We respect his wish to pursue new opportunities and wish him all the best. We will follow his career closely and have no doubt he will succeed in senior coaching.”
Wilshere reportedly enjoyed his stint as head coach and is now seeking new opportunities away from Carrow Road.
