Jadon Sancho is a blue!

Chelsea have finally announced that the 24-year-old has signed to the London club on loan from Manchester United, with the Blues having an obligation to buy the England forward for £23million next year.

Speaking about his arrival Sancho said: ‘I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back.

‘The manager spoke to me about the project and, for a young player, it’s exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.’

Sancho will replace Raheem Sterling, who has joined Arsenal, after the former Borussia Dortmund star was out-of-favour with head coach Erik ten Hag following a highly documented fall-out last season.

The transfer deadline day deal came as a shock to many after Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag insisted that Sancho would remain at the club for the upcoming season.

Asked if he expected Sancho to remain at the club, Ten Hag said: ‘As I know, yes.

‘He is in our squad and we are happy with him. We need a good squad, we need depth. We have to play many games until January. After the break we play every third day so we need options.’

Sancho started his footballing journey at Watford before heading up north to join Manchester City at the age of 14.

He excelled at youth level for City and just three years later he signed for German giants Borussia Dortmund, where he rose to football stardom and proved himself as one of the future wingers of the game.

Sancho made 137 appearances in just four seasons for the Dortmund side, claiming silverware along the way by winning the 2019 DFL Supercup and the 2021 DFB-Pokal.

After impressive performances during his first spell at Borussia Dortmund saw him break into the England team, United paid £73m to bring Sancho to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021.

However, the winger under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to impress and replicate the performances that made him so vaunted before his move to the Premier League.

His time at Old Trafford was made worse after a public falling out with the Dutchman saw him frozen out at United last season, with Sancho returning to Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign as a result.

His nightmare at Old Trafford has now come to an end, as the Blues have woken the 24-year-old up from his slumber.

Enzo Maresca will be eager to try and turn Sancho’s form around and get him performing consistently again, with the aim of transforming him into the Premier League winger we all thought he would be when he first arrived to England’s top flight in 2021.
