Jaggery Benefits: Jaggery is like medicine for health in winter. Its consumption helps maintain a healthy digestive system and provides relief from various ailments
Along with being delicious, jaggery also serves as an Ayurvedic remedy. Daily consumption of jaggery is considered extremely beneficial for health due to its rich nutrient content, which is essential for the body.
Dr. Balkrishna Yadav (BAMS, MD), Medical Officer of Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Musha, shared the health benefits of consuming jaggery and how it should be consumed.
Strengthens The Digestive System
Dr. Balkrishna told Local18 that jaggery contains digestive enzymes that promote a healthy and strong digestive system. It helps alleviate constipation, indigestion, and other stomach-related issues. Regular consumption of jaggery ensures proper digestion, allowing the body to absorb nutrients efficiently.
Increases Haemoglobin Levels
Dr. Balkrishna further explains that jaggery is rich in iron, which helps maintain healthy haemoglobin levels in the blood. For individuals suffering from anaemia (iron deficiency), consuming jaggery is particularly beneficial.
Strengthens Bones
Jaggery contains essential minerals like calcium and phosphorus that contribute to strong bones. These nutrients are crucial for maintaining bone health and can help reduce bone-related problems.
Helpful For Weight Loss And Strengthens The Immune System
Jaggery is rich in fibre, which aids in weight loss. It also contains antioxidants and zinc, which enhance the body’s immune system. This helps the body build strength to fight diseases and protect against infections.
How To Consume?
Dr. Balkrishna Yadav recommends consuming 5 grams of jaggery with water on an empty stomach in the morning. Additionally, jaggery can be used as a substitute for sugar in tea, milk, or other foods, providing the body with essential nutrients while promoting digestive health.
Should Diabetic Patients Consume Jaggery?
The doctor also mentioned that although jaggery contains 2% fewer carbohydrates than sugar, its consumption can still increase blood sugar levels. Therefore, individuals with diabetes should avoid consuming jaggery.
