Krishna Janmashtami is also known as Gokul Ashtami or Janmashtami. It is one of the most auspicious festivals that is celebrated with much pomp and zest by the Hindus across the world. The festival marks the birth of Lord Krishna. This year, Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 26, Monday. As per the scriptures, Lord Krishna was born on the Ashtami Tithi of Bhadrapada Krishnapaksha at around 12 o’clock (midnight) in the Rohini Nakshatra. Devotees observe fast on Janmashtami and worship Lord Krishna at midnight. If you want to observe fast on this auspicious day, then here is how you can do it. Devotees, on the day of Krishna Janmashtami, observe fast. Generally, they eat just fruits. Many people break their fast after 12 o’clock at night after worshipping Lord Krishna. There are many who break the fast after sunrise the next day. On the day of Janmashtami, one has to wake up before sunrise, take a bath and resolve to observe a fast. Throughout the day, one must keep chanting the names of Radha Krishna. During daytime, make sure you’re eating only fruits and then before worshipping the Lord at 12 in the night, you can take a bath once again and wear clean clothes. Worship Bal Krishna as per the rituals and after performing the Aarti offer him Bhog. Only after this, you can break your fast.

Few rules to follow to observe Krishna Janmashtami vrat–

– During Janmashtami fasting period, Brahmacharya should be followed.

– ⁠No food should be consumed except for fruits during the fasting period.

– ⁠The fast can be broken after 12 o’clock at night or the next day after sunrise.

– On the day of Krishna Janmashtami, devotees must visit Lord Krishna’s temple.

– ⁠ Make sure to worship Lord Krishna in the morning and evening on this day.

– ⁠After offering the Prasad to the Lord, make sure to consume it and then break the fast.

– ⁠If you are observing the fast, then make sure you do not sleep in the day time.

– ⁠Do not lose your temper or use foul language against anyone.

How to pledge for Janmashtami fast?

To pledge for Shri Krishna Janmashtami fast, wake up in the Brahma Muhurta in the morning and take a bath. After this, light a ghee lamp in front of the idol of Shri Krishna and then pledge to observe a fast by holding a Tulsi leaf in your hand.
