Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday (January 5) reserved big praise for star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was on fire in the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and Australia. In the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which was played across five venues in Australia from November 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025, Bumrah dismissed 32 batters in five matches, which is the most by any bowler in the series. The 31-year-old cricketer from Ahmedabad, who made his Test debut for India in January 2018, broke multiple records during the almost two-month-long tour of Australia but failed to help India from losing the series with a scoreline of 1-3.

For his 32-wicket and 42-run show in the series, Bumrah, who sits at the world No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler’s ranking, won the Player of the Series award on Sunday.

After Australia hammered India by 6 wickets in Sydney to win the fifth Test inside three days and also become Border-Gavaskar Trophy winners after 10 years, Tendulkar took to X to congratulate the Baggy Greens, and in the same post he gave a special mention to Bumrah.

According to Tendulkar, who holds the record for playing the most matches and scoring the most runs in both Tests and ODI cricket, Bumrah is the best in the world.

“Commendable performance by Australia to come back from 0-1 down and win the series 3-1. Congratulations to them for winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Special mention to @Jaspritbumrah93. “Jas” is just the best in the world!” Tendulkar tweeted.

In his third Test series against Australia, Bumrah broke the record for taking the most Test wickets for India in a red-ball series away from home, and he also became India’s most successful Test bowler in Australia. Bumrah has 64 wickets to his name in 12 Tests played so far in Australia.

In addition to that, Bumrah also broke Anil Kumble’s record of taking the most Test wickets in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries for India.

The 32-wicket show in the recently concluded series also helped Bumrah equal Harbhajan Singh’s record of taking the most wickets in a single edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. During the 2001 BGT, which was played in India, Harbhajan also accounted for the dismissal of 32 Aussie batters in three matches.
