World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday, December 29, broke legendary Anil Kumble’s record to become India’s most successful Test bowler in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries. During his playing days, Kumble, who finished his career with 619 wickets in 132 Tests, picked up 141 wickets in 35 red-ball matches played in SENA countries.

The former India Test captain and head coach dismissed 49 batters in Australia, 36 in England, 11 in New Zealand, and 45 in South Africa. Bumrah, who has 202 wickets to his name in 44 Tests played so far, has picked up 142 wickets in SENA countries.

He has 61 wickets to his name in 11 Tests played so far in Australia, and in addition to that, he has got rid of 37 batters in England, 6 in New Zealand, and 38 in South Africa.

Bumrah moved past Kumble’s tally during the second session of the fourth day’s play of the ongoing fourth India-Australia Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey (2 runs from 7 balls) was his 142nd Test wicket in SENA countries.

2. Anil Kumble 45 36 11 49 141

The left-handed batter was clean bowled by Bumrah on the last ball of the 36th over of Australia’s second innings.

During the fourth day’s play of the Boxing Day Test, Bumrah broke several milestones. His first wicket of Sam Konstas helped him complete 150 wickets in the World Test Championship, and then by removing Travis Head for 1, he became the second fast Indian bowler to take 200 Test wickets.

Head’s wicket also helped him break Ravichandran Ashwin’s record of taking the most wickets in a single edition of the World Test Championship for India.

After taking Head’s wicket for the second time in the ongoing match, Bumrah dismissed Mitchell Marsh for a four-ball duck in the same over. Marsh was caught behind by Rishabh Pant.

Bumrah is the only bowler in the history of Test cricket who has dismissed more than 200 batters with an average of less than 20. He tops the list, which includes the likes of Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, and Curtly Ambrose.
