Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who last played a competitive match in the first week of January 2025, will miss the Mumbai Indians’ fourth league stage match of IPL 2025 on Friday (April 4) against the Lucknow Super Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Friday afternoon, the 31-year-old right-arm fast bowler from Ahmedabad, who has 165 wickets to his name in 133 IPL matches played so far, will not only miss MI’s match against LSG but is also doubtful for the high-voltage match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (April 7).
However, it has been reported that “Bumrah is getting closer to returning to action. He has been building his bowling workload in recent weeks at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is understood to be close to taking the final round of fitness tests. Only after he gets the all-clear from the BCCI medical team can Bumrah link up with MI and play in the IPL.”
“Bumrah, it is understood, has been cautious himself and wants to ensure he is totally fit before returning to action. This is keeping in mind India’s five-Test series in England, starting on June 28,” the report added.
In absence of Bumrah, former New Zealand pacer Trent Boult is leading MI’s bowling attack along with Deepak Chahar, who joined the Mumbai-based franchise for Rs 9.25 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.
Mumbai Indians bowlers produced a super show in the last IPL 2025 match played against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (March 31). In that game, after opting to bowl first, MI bowled the defending champions out for just 116 runs in 16.2 overs.
Boult helped MI get off to a flying start by dismissing Sunil Narine in the first over itself, and Chahar picked up two wickets. Apart from them, 23-year-old Ashwani Kumar, on his IPL debut, finished with figures of 4 for 24 in three overs to script a memorable eight-wicket win for the Hardik Pandya-led side.
